Soviet Chaika Watch, Black Enamel Floral Dial and Bracelet

A Soviet Чайка ladies' watch with black-ground enamel running from bracelet to dial — the oval face painted with a red rose bouquet and green leaves against black, dot hour markers only, gold hands, knurled gold-tone bezel. The narrow elongated bracelet links repeat the scheme: flowers in pink, red, and teal on black ground, set in dark gold-tone frames. No white ground, no numerals — the whole piece works in the same dark register.

The black-ground floral painting recalls the Zhostovo tradition — the folk art style from the Moscow region where flowers are painted against lacquered black metal trays, vivid color against deep darkness. Whether intentional or not, these Chaika enamel painters were working in the same visual language, applied to something you'd wear on your wrist.
