description

A Soviet Чайка ladies' hunter-case watch with four openwork gold-tone filigree bracelet links — each panel a pierced lattice of scrolled wire and granulation centered on a red cabochon stone. The hinged cover carries a matching red stone. Open it to find a gold-tone dial with Roman numerals, square hour markers, and Чайка branding, set in an engraved scrollwork case. Made at the Uglich Watch Factory, 1970s–80s.

Filigree — twisted and soldered fine wire formed into decorative patterns — has deep roots in Russian and Soviet decorative metalwork, particularly in jewelry from the Caucasus and Central Asian republics. Applying it to a watch bracelet rather than enamel panels gives this piece a completely different register: heavier, more architectural, more overtly jewelry than timepiece.

Good vintage condition. Filigree links intact with no bent or missing wire. Red stones present. Case and bracelet show light wear and some tarnishing. Dial clean with legible branding. Recently serviced, running.
