description

A Soviet Чайка ladies' hunter-case watch with a bracelet of four large Baltic amber panels — deep honey-orange with characteristic internal cloudiness and inclusions, each set in a wave-edge silver-tone frame. The hinged cover is topped with a domed amber cabochon; open it to find a gold-tone inner case with engraved floral scrollwork, a white dial with Arabic numerals, Чайка branding, and 17 камней notation. The bracelet ends in plain silver-tone chain links. Made at the Uglich Watch Factory, 1970s–80s.

Baltic amber — fossilized tree resin millions of years old, harvested primarily from Soviet Latvia and Lithuania — was one of the USSR's genuine luxury materials, used in everything from jewelry to state gifts. Pairing it with a hunter-case mechanism, which already had aristocratic connotations, produced something that read as genuinely elevated by Soviet standards. This piece was never going to sit in a factory worker's drawer.

Good vintage condition. Amber panels intact with no chips or cracks, natural inclusions present. Hinged cover opens and closes properly. Case shows light wear. Dial clean with legible branding. Recently serviced, running.
