description

White dial, cushion-shaped gold-plated case, worn brown leather strap — understated from a distance, but the center medallion tells the whole story. Printed in the dial: the full formal name of the Bashkir oil production association БАШНЕФТЬ, its two state decorations (Ордена Ленина and Ордена Трудового Красного Знамени), and the year 1982. This was not a watch you bought. This was a watch you earned.

Bashneft was the Soviet Union's Bashkortostan oil monopoly and one of the major producers feeding the USSR's petroleum economy. By 1982, the association had accumulated two of the state's highest honors — the Order of Lenin and the Red Banner of Labour — and management gave out engraved commemorative watches to mark the occasion. Corporate gift watches like this one were produced in small runs by factories like Poljot on commission from state enterprises, and almost none of them made it out of the Soviet Union.

Condition: Good vintage condition. Gold plating intact with minor wear at case edges. Dial clean and legible. Crystal has light surface scratches. Running. Strap replaced with aftermarket brown leather.
