Armenian SSR State Flag Poster

This is an original 1984 Soviet-era poster depicting the official state flag of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. The composition is stark and graphic: a horizontal red field bisected by a deep blue stripe, with the hammer and sickle topped by a star positioned in the upper hoist. Along the lower margin, bold Armenian text reads: «Փառք քեզ, սիրելի հայրենիք Հայաստան» (“Glory to you, beloved homeland Armenia”). The design is intentionally minimal, emphasizing national symbolism through color, proportion, and typography rather than figurative imagery.

Produced in Yerevan by the state publisher “Hayastan” during the late Soviet period, this poster reflects the USSR’s formal recognition of individual republic identities within the broader Soviet framework. During the 1970s–80s, such flag posters were widely displayed in schools, public institutions, and cultural centers, reinforcing republican pride while remaining firmly within official state aesthetics. Rather than functioning as agitational propaganda, the poster serves as a visual affirmation of Armenian identity as defined and sanctioned by the Soviet system during its final decades.
