1973 Aeroflot 50th Anniversary Promotional Booklet

A large-format promotional booklet issued by Аэрофлот for its 50th anniversary, titled "Аэрофлот в Юбилейном Году" — Aeroflot in the Anniversary Year — with the 1923-1973 dates worked into a bold graphic of the numeral 50 with a supersonic silhouette cutting through it. Interior spreads feature full-color photography and technical specifications of the fleet: the Il-76 heavy transport, the Il-62 long-haul flagship, and most notably the Ту-144 — the world's first supersonic passenger aircraft, shown banking over clouds with CCCP-68001 on its fuselage.

Aeroflot turned 50 in 1973, the same year the Tu-144 crashed at the Paris Air Show in front of 200,000 spectators — a catastrophe the Soviet press did not report domestically. This booklet was printed before that happened, presenting the Tu-144 as the crowning achievement of Soviet civil aviation and the future of passenger flight. That future never arrived.
