A commemorative thread gift set produced by the Leningrad State Spinning-Weaving Combine named after С.М. Кирова for the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. The box lid features bold constructivist graphic design in Bauhaus-adjacent primary colors: nested rectangles in gold and coral framing a dynamic composition of circles and sweeping curves in blue, black, and cream, with the anniversary numeral "50" in red. Inside: 18 small balls of amber-gold crochet thread and a partial knitted swatch, packaged in red tissue stamped "1917" and cream paper stamped "1967."
The Kirov Combine (founded 1832, renamed after the assassinated Leningrad party chief Sergei Kirov in 1934) was one of Leningrad's flagship textile enterprises and a regular producer of jubilee gifts marking Soviet milestones. This set represents a textile factory doing what Soviet factories did best during anniversary years: turning ordinary production into propaganda, and propaganda into something you could actually use.
Good vintage condition. Box shows surface wear and minor corner softening. Interior tissue torn but present. Thread balls intact with slight oxidation to color. Knitted swatch included with minor loose threads.
