Issue #30 (1716) of Krokodil from October 30, 1963, in its 42nd year of publication. The cover by V. Goryaev shows workers painting a banner reading "Annual Plan Completed by November 7th," with the wry caption: "Today we have a double holiday: the 46th anniversary of October and New Year!" The back cover features a striking anti-militarist cartoon by Yu. Ganf depicting a grotesque figure with gallows for wings, titled "Angel-Guardian."
Krokodil was the USSR's preeminent satirical magazine, founded in 1922 as a supplement to Pravda. It wielded humor as a weapon against bureaucracy, corruption, and Western imperialism while carefully toeing the Party line. This October issue coincides with preparations for the November 7th Revolution anniversary celebrations, and the cover's joke about premature plan completion gently mocks Soviet quota culture.
Good vintage condition. Cover shows light edge wear and minor creasing. Pages intact with age-appropriate yellowing. Small tears at spine edges. All pages intact.
