The front cover carries a commemorative insert announcing the 150th birthday of Alexander Pushkin the following day, with his portrait reproduced from a period painting and the headline declaring tomorrow the anniversary of "the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin."
The 1949 Pushkin jubilee was a major Soviet cultural event, coordinated across all 15 republics simultaneously. In Soviet Armenia, as everywhere else, Pushkin was presented as a universal genius belonging to all Soviet peoples — a Russifying cultural project wrapped in the language of literary celebration.
