This is issue #24 of Smena (Смена) from 1949, featuring a socialist realist painting of construction workers raising a red flag at a building site. The back displays monumental Stalinist architecture. Inside contains a major commemorative spread for Stalin's 70th birthday celebration with his portrait surrounded by Party leadership, titled "Наше Счастье" (Our Happiness).
Smena was the Soviet Union's most popular youth magazine, published by Komsomol and reaching over 3 million copies by the 1980s. This December 1949 issue coincides with Stalin's 70th birthday celebrations, combining themes of labor heroism, architectural triumph, and personality cult at the height of late Stalinism.
